PERM’s Annual Metro Area Fundraiser was on January 8, 2004, at Brook Hall in Blaine, MN. In addition to the fine food, auctions and raffles, this year’s event featured an all star line up of guest speakers, including Larry Bollig from “Bear Facts & Fish Tales” on KSTP-AM, State Rep. Sondra Erickson, entrepreneur and activist Bill Wenmark, and Congressman Mark Kennedy among others. We want to thank all those who helped make this event a success. The folks at Brook Hall, the many area businesses that provided merchandise for auction and raffle prizes, all the elected officials who attended to speak and learn about the issues PERM is working on, and all the volunteers who worked putting the event together, especially Jim Wille and Marv Carlson. And finally, we wish to thank all of you who attended and gave us your support!

PERM volunteers staffed a booth again this year at the St. Cloud Sportsmen’s Show in February. The hot topic at the show this year was what the fishing regulations would be at Mille Lacs Lake. PERM volunteers passed out Dick Sternberg’s recommendations and copies of the resolutions for changes in the process prepared by Joe Fellegy. As always, they invite PERM to set up at the big awards ceremony and pass out information and sell our raffles and merchandise. But even more importantly, contest organizer, Frank Dressler of Liberty Beach, kicked of our fundraising effort with the first $100 donation as he encouraged all the contestants to chip in too! Frank was joined in his support with an additional donation of $100 from Steve Johnson from Johnson’s Portside!

Musky Expo takes in $2,300!

The annual sports show dedicated to the pursuit of the elusive musky is held each March in Blaine, MN. Thanks to the show promoters for providing PERM with an opportunity to reach this growing group of dedicated fishing enthusiasts. Often the tribal tactics of spearing muskie get lost amid all the attention to tribal gillnets for walleye in Minnesota. But as musky fishermen will tell you, they are appalled by the practice, especially in Wisconsin. Thanks to all the volunteers, especially Doug Meyenburg, who coordinated the show for PERM.
