Support Equal Hunting & Fishing for All at the Polls

Last Updated: October 8, 2024By

PERM by nature doesn’t endorse political candidates, although if read this short article you will see that the big “Land Giveaway” is alive. The MN DFL trifecta has promoted, passed and signed legislation to give state land to American Indian Tribes. That puts state land in control of those tribes that do not have to follow any state laws when it comes to harvesting natural resources. PERM’s goal has always been Equal Hunting and Fishing Rights for ALL. Please consider this once you are in the privacy of the voting booth.

State Sen. Mary Kunesh, DFL-New Brighton, who has led an historic effort in the Legislature to authorize the return of state land to Native American tribes in Minnesota, thinks more can be done to get such legislation passed.

One bill that passed led to the return of land that had been part of a school trust to the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. An environmental bill also authorized the Minnesota Historical Society to return portions of the Lower Sioux Agency Historic Site to the Lower Sioux Indian Community.
